The Lion and the Rock
My personal theory of me
Introduction
This is an analogy. An analogy is a story or saying that is applied to something in real life that is supposed to help explain it. This is an analogy of me or at least what I’m like. An analogy also only goes so far. While I believe it says a lot about me, I don’t think it can always be applied.
This is something I’m pretty proud of. Reading this is, in a way, reading my mind. It’ll probably be updated every so often.. this is not the final draft at all, but I doubt anything will ever be taken away, just added.
I pull my characters in this story from astrology a lot. Capricorn being the rock and Leo being the Lion… but that doesn’t have much meaning anymore and so now is just kind of a handy reason to use those archtypes. Let us begin.
The Analogy of the Lion and Rock
There is a rock. As pointed out to me before, you should probably think of this rock as a monolith. A very tall rock but with a very wide base also. This rock has long winding paths all around it. Some of the paths are on easy terrain, other are harder to get around. People can climb these paths and some people can even make their own, but that is extrodinarily rare. Some paths lead to certain places on the rock like other paths or small areas where other people end up too. People come and go from the rock, usually taking whatever path they usually take for their own reasons. Most people never travel more than half way or less up the mountain. The highest possible place is the top of the rock where there is a cave, but more about that later.
The rock is in the middle of a very large expansive forest that is endless in every direction. The forest is completely silent. There is nothing but trees and grass. No animals. No birds. Not even bugs. Silence.
The sky above the rock is always just after dusk where the sky is still lit, but the sun can not be seen. Twilight.
The only native inhabitant to the rock is the lion. The lion is the king of all that can be seen from the rock. The lion likes people to come to the rock so long as they are allowed in either by way of normality or because they are special. The lion watches people going up all but the most well troddened paths. The lion is always aware of everyone on the path. The twilight from the sky illuminates all those that are on the mountain. Nothing escapes the lion’s notice that would harm the lion… at least not for very long.
If someone wishes to do harm to the rock or the lion, the lion ravages them and throws them from the mountain and those people are never allowed back up any path on the mountain for a long time and never up anymore except for the lowest of paths.
If people are unwanted, they never get very far at all up the paths. They are herded to only the lowest of the paths as well. Loved ones often sit near, if not at the top, enjoying the solidarity of the rock and themselves and the warmness and care of the lion. The more loved the people are, the closer they are to the top. The less they matter to the lion, the closer they are to the bottom.
At the top is where all the lion’s other stuff is at. All the lion’s possessions are here. If anyone ever takes anything from the top without asking, the lion gets very angry. However, the lion is pretty liberal, but also anal about his belongings. He does not want people to leave the rock when in possession of his items. In fact, only people who sit very near the top anyway are allowed to take things away from the rock.
In the top of the mountain is the cave. The rest of the mountain has no holes in it, or if there were the person that put the hole there would be confronted with the full force of the lion. The cave leads deep inside the moutain to a sea. The sea is deep deep under the rock and as vast as the forest above. There is nothing in the sea. The sea only laps against the single beach which is only accessible from the top of the rock, through the cave, and under the rock.
The source and amount of light varies on the whim of the lion. No one ever sees this except for the lion and never will. Not because the lion doesn’t want them there, but because he can not allow them to for reasons the lion doesn’t totally understand. People on the mountain suspect something is in there, deep under the rock, but have no idea that it’s the vastness… the ever expansive sea.
The lion sometimes, especially after a conflict, comes to the sea and is swallowed by it. The lion is reminded of a quote from a song in this instance… “I will take my place in the Great Below”. The sea heals the lion and the lion re-emerges from the sea, ready for another day.
This sea is also where the lion will die, simply not re-emerge from the sea, and the rock will simply cease to be one day… but not very soon.
