I’m a hero
Friday, September 19th, 2008new glasses
Tuesday, September 16th, 2008Shannon and I picked out some new frames for me to update my prescription and old frames.. just got them… and it’s making me pretty damn dizzy… I guess my old prescription was off from these.. holy hell.
I think these look better than the last ones… a little bigger on the glass part themselves than the previous ones.. but of course no where near the old old ones from 8th grade
They are pretty much dark grey.. I’ll have to take a picture of myself and link ‘er here… probably will in facebook anyway.
thoughts on True Blood
Monday, September 8th, 2008So as most of you know I’m like almost morally obligated to watch new horror shows.. I’d feel some deep emptiness if I didn’t.
So I checked out True Blood.. I had to DVR it cuz Shannon would have nothing to do with it.. so I think my viewing time for the show is about 7am on Mondays
thoughts… first.. vampires right? Their fangs belong on their canines, not their second incisors. Lost Boys did it on their second incisors just like True Blood is doing, and it bothers me intensely. So, I watch the show ultra skeptically from that point on.
Silver.. they are doing the silver thing… ugh.. they even go so far as to have the main character say "hey I thought that was for werewolves?" well… that’s cuz it is… ugh.
The main guy that made this series made Six Feet Under.. which, when I did catch it, was very good. I wished I had seen more of it. This, I’m not sure if it’s going to last. He’s not a fantasy writer though.. so.. I’m not sure how this will go.. already we have problems with the lore, and I think that it might be bad for the show… or maybe I’m just being too much of a snob about it.
There was a ton of sex and blood and some murder by not-so-bad guys in the first one.. and I think it’ll keep going along those lines.
Since this is HBO, the show will be visceral, and I like that. What will be interesting to see is if a guy that can write/direct very well about people being bad, happy, sad, and, you know, totally human, will be able to write about something about supernatural feelings.
Really, they should look to Dexter for how to write a vampire’s role… and Dexter is coming soon.. so far, if I had to pick, it’d be Dexter all the way.
So .. my reaction is mixed… on one side I can see that this might be pretty cool.. on the other side I don’t know if this director/writer can tell a vampire story without it being played out or just wrong or, the worst, totally hokey… maybe I’m just jaded… maybe nothing is as good in this genre as I think it should be
He did say in his interview that he will try to keep the show as "real" as possible given that there are supernatural vampires and everyone knows about them.. so.. I’ll give him a couple more times… if he can pull it off, I think it’ll do well.
