new car
Thursday, January 17th, 2008I bought a new car… 2008 Subaru Legacy 3.0R. A present to me from me for my bday. Payments are like $573 a month, which is kind of a lot.. but if I got any less car I wouldn’t have been happy.
I’m shooting to keep this one for no more than 5 years… once it’s paid off it’ll get traded… at least. Really at the instant I’m not upside down in it I want to trade it… and keep doing that. After having my 1997 Honda Accord for about 7 years, I’m pretty convinced that’s The Way. So OMG you want to have a car payment forever? Yes.. and a car that I don’t have to pay anything on except my monthly fee.
Really.. maybe I should lease a car next.. I dunno.
Anyway.. it’s gonna get tint, remote start and XM. The dealer (Lee’s Summit Subaru) screwed up and told me that there’s XM in it already and after I bought it I found out there was not… that it still needed the tuner. I didn’t check, but I was assured by 3 people it was good to go. So, their screw up. Totally. I made a deal and they broke that deal. They SHOULD give me XM free, but I’m going to go halfsees on the tuner with them.. so $300. It’s either that or return the car.. Patrick the manager gave me that option too.
I drove it in the snow last night and the all wheel drive made a believer out of me. I had traction all the time and other people were getting messed up in the slush. Subaru’s drive train is the shit. The heaters are all bad ass… keep the windows clear and the cabin nice. The seat heaters are sweet. And ooo leather. And a sexy red dash. So I want to keep it.
I played with the in dash NAV and it’s pretty cool. I wish the resolution was a bit higher on the display and that the backlight (or night mode or whatever) was a little more intelligent, but it’s not bad. .. it’s just 1 button.
One thing I wish it had is Bluetooth hands free. No Subaru does. There are aftermarket options for such things, but I’d have to find a decent installer… I’m not going to tear the dash off my car .. it has less than 150 miles on it.
I read about the new Honda Accords.. I guess they have all this stuff in there (except the all wheel drive of course), and more horse power, but I am just done with Hondas.. at least for now. I’ve been doing Hondas since I was 16 and it’s time for something different.
