updating my political views

Monday, October 29th, 2007

I think I’m gonna have to update my political views to put some distance between socially liberal but otherwise conservative people such as myself and name the other side of my views which are largely libertarian.  Otherwise people put me in a boat filled with… well.. dull grandfathers.

I think this has me pretty well pegged: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neolibertarianism

happiness quote

Monday, October 29th, 2007

There are lots of ways of being miserable, but there’s only one way of being comfortable, and that is to stop running round after happiness. If you make up your mind not to be happy there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have a fairly good time.

red hair

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

I have red hair now… I think it’s pretty damn cool.  Rachel Snedden/Wilson did it for me… Kris assisted.  Kristina had done this about 2 years ago, but Rachel is a beautician so she really knows the deal.. well and it’s real hair dye… so it’ll be red for awhile.

las fucking vegas

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

so I went to Las Vegas for the first time over the weekend with Curve, Twill, Big Twill and his wifey poo Lauren.  We got there on Saturday and went to Tuesday.

Saturday I spent about $300 after I made it to the hotel room at the Monte Carlo… mostly booze.  The breakdown was a lot of fun….

We started drinking in the room right away, went downstairs, and sat at a blackjack table.. lost about $60 in a few hands and a few more drinks and then left with Nick and Lauren.  I played like such shit it was embarrassing especially considering the rest of the weekend.  The dealer was seriously telling me “stop it” .. “don’t hit on that”.. “no”… so funny .. but we drank more and more so I surely didn’t care.

Nick bought us some drinks and we started walking down the strip toward Paris.  There were cops en masse around but the crowd was huge, so there had to be.  There were Mexicans about every 30 yards handing out hooker cards.. or escort cards.. or whatever you call them.  Jon got just about all of them… he had a pretty respectable stack by the time that was done.

So we walked like a million blocks down to Margaritaville where Jimmy Buffet was going to play later.  Nick and Lauren love that stuff…. curve twill and I were good on that (besides wasting away in margaritaville), but we did want to drink like Jimmy, so we did.  I think totals of merely walking down the strip was like $60 for a round of shots and a few more $10s for some margaritas.  I think that’s about where I licked Lauren.. yes.. that drunk.

They had this beer that was a Corona knockoff.. it was terrible.. but they’d put a shot of .. something.. I guess tequila, but it was like the worst tequila ever… on top of probably the worst Mexican piss I’ve ever had (ever) and after getting through one of them I was just about ready to vomit… so I gave my other one to Jon who has no such beer “handicap”.

So we left there and made it down to Paris (or somewhere thereabouts) and got 3 feet of Captain and Coke.  3 fucking feet… each.  We were already hammered.. and I had a few more shots.. Cuervo or something… and then that.  So we were walking all the way back and it somehow got dark.. and then I lost Jon (who peed on something inside the Coke place after humping a billboard and took some decorations off the walls near our room.. I shit thee not) .. then I told some older ladies about the “sandstorm” and they should avert their eyes.  I don’t think I’ve ever had an old person look at me like that… but ya.. I was about an hour from blacking out on my feet.

So Nick and Lauren took their leave to go back down to Margaritaville to see Jimmy.  The rest of us went back in to the Monte Carlo… and I got about $40 worth of fast food.  I went upstairs, they stayed downstairs with the food.  I called them and was so lost inside the hotel.  I knew what floor and room we were in, but I had no idea how to get there anymore… I was.. well.. wasted.

I finally found the room… and that’s about when we all blacked out… oh.. and.. it was only about 8pm.  Yes.. 8pm and we were GONE.  I ate some of the foodz and then after much insanity came to and went back down stairs to gamble.. and lost another $60… woohoo… bed time… we were a handful.. I’m sure they wanted to kick us out… but they didn’t.  Oh and I had Caesar dressing all over me.. so.. that was something extra special.

Next day was really hard to piece together what the hell happened… the above is the best I can put together… minus drunken texts and phone calls (which I’m sure were totally freaking awesome.. and I’ve since deleted).

I decided to read up on blackjack tho… I started memorizing the tables and reading why and kinda making my own theories based off how much I got shafted the night before.  We went down to eat at the Cafe.. that’s what it’s called..  Cafe.  That was good.. just ate burgers there.  I had like $100 left over.  So I checked my account and I had a little room so I took out $200.  I went over to put $100 on black.  After some convincing Twill and Curve did too.. and we got it.  That was a nice little double-your-money for everyone… gotta bet big to win big baby.

And I tried my hand at that again at the tables.. and did a lot better.. at least they didn’t tell me to “stop it” anymore.  Then we ate at the Mexican place later on.. Diablo’s Cantina… that was really good.  Best place of them all… by far.  It was awesome and had some special stuff you just didn’t usually see.  The burrito I had was top notch… I wish I had been hungrier.  Then we gambled more at blackjack and I was on fire.  9 blackjacks that day and I was playing like not a retard.  So I made my $120 back plus more… like $220 or so in the end.

Then we messed around some more (mostly blackjack) until Nick and Lauren wanted to go to Downtown Las Vegas.  In sum… I don’t like it down there, but I’m glad I tried it once.  It feels a lot more dangerous and dirty to me.  Sure it’s cheaper and they have the video ceiling thing on Freemont which is pretty cool, but I really like to be places I can barely afford when I’m on vacation and work up rather then hang out in a dump.. I can do that here.  Seriously it was like the Flamingo (dirty bird here in town) everywhere down there.  It’s historical.. and ya cheaper.. sure.. ya.. well.. you can keep it.  Nick and Lauren also like strip clubs and I don’t.. at all.. so I wasn’t down.. I just wanted to go back by that time.. so we had to walk another few blocks to get to the bus… and I was already hurting.. I fucked up myself on Saturday and walking another zillion miles was really gay… that feeling kinda killed me that night… no one that I’m usually with stresses about things like that and they were all unaffected.. but I was done.. just wanted to sleep.. and so I did.

Monday was the Dragon Noodle… that was ok.. but I really wanted sushi but they didn’t serve it until a lot later.. so I just had some Chinese stuff.. it was ok.. there are easily better places around KC tho… it was cheap though.. only like $23 for all of us.. of course.. I was still starving cuz I didn’t want to eat a mound of fried rice to get full.  Then we just drank in the room pretty much.. watched some movies.. didn’t really do a whole lot.. those guys were tired most of the day until I was tired again.. so we were out of sync.  We did the Market City Caffe… Italian food… it was nothing special.  Seriously, the Olive Garden is better.  And I hate to say it.. but it’s true.  Curve and Twill went out again but I just wasn’t feeling it…. I was still hurting from all the walking the day before and the even more walking the day before that.  I thought it MUST be easier to get around then having to literally walk 3 blocks every time you want to try something different, so I think we did something wrong.  But I wasn’t in charge, so I just went with it.  I won more at blackjack tho. :)
Tuesday it was time to go.  Those guys stayed out until like 5am so they were hurting.  I was well rested ;)  We ate the buffet that day and that was ok.. pretty standard stuff.  Twill got his noodles and I got my Mexican fix… so we did good.  I was so ready to leave tho.  I did turn $1 in to $10 though at blackjack… certainly that is a game I could play all day long .. and I’m good at it… so.. go me :)
anyway.. all in all a great trip.. I’ll definitely go back as soon as I can.  When I do though I’m going to impose more structure on the whole thing.  This time I was really just tagging along and while it was fun I think we could have done more.  But blackjack… yes.. I know that game… now :)

astrological kick

I haven’t written out what all I am for awhile.. Capricorn with leo moon/rising.. here’s the overview of what that is from this site that seems to give a pretty thorough view of little old .. ole (me).  The funny thing is to read these things and it seems like that they oppose.. and then I remember there’s on example.. me.. that this all makes so much sense with, taken together.

Sun in Capricorn
Capricorn is a feet-on-the-ground, eye-on-the-prize sign. Those with Sun in Capricorn have a realistic, grounded approach to life that can be seen no matter how dreamy the rest of the birth chart suggests. These people know how to do things, and to get things done.

Some Capricorns naturally turn their backs on things they deem too frivolous. They are very much concerned with things that are worthwhile—and that includes their own lives. Capricorns want to do and be something worthwhile. Like their Earth signs relatives, Taurus and Virgo, they need to feel useful and effective in the real world in order to be satisfied with their lives. But the Capricorn spin on the earth signs is that Capricorn possesses a stronger need for recognition in a worldly sense. They have a strong sense of society and its framework, and they feel most secure when they feel they are doing their part within that framework.

Capricorns like to pare things down, and take pleasure in the simple things in life. However, many are attracted to status symbols and these ones will wear the best clothes (tasteful ones!) and drive quietly impressive cars.

Comparing Capricorns to their symbol, the goat, brings up some interesting analogies. Solar Capricorns can see into the future, and plan for it. They don’t mind taking things slowly, but they absolutely aim to get to the top of the mountain in life! They make their way steadily and sure-footedly; and their strength and singleness of purpose are admirable.

Capricorns can sometimes be rather lonely people, although they rarely let it show. They are often a little reserved—even standoffish. This is generally because they value all things practical, and they’ll seldom wear their emotions on their sleeves, unless they have a particularly flamboyant Moon sign.

This is a sign that is surely the most resourceful of the zodiac. To some, Capricorns come across as unimaginative, but they can be enormously creative when it comes to the material world. They are generally very capable people with a strong sense of tradition and responsibility.

Many Capricorns have mastered the art of making people laugh. Their sense of humor can be of the deadpan variety—they’re generally excellent at keeping a straight face. They can be bitingly sarcastic, too.

Capricorns are not known for taking too many risks in life. They value the beaten track and things “tried and true”. This is not to say they are stick-in-the-muds — they simply value the hard work laid down by those who’ve been around before them.

Turn to your Capricorn friends for help when you need to really get things done. They’ll have practical advice, and they’ll help you organize and manage your life a little better. Capricorns are generally good with their “word”, dependable, and rather loyal people.

Moon in Leo
Depending on other positions in the chart, Moon in Leo people are not necessarily “outgoing.” When they feel comfortable, they do like being the center of attention. That is, they like being in the “spotlight” in the comfort of their own homes and with family and friends. They enjoy entertaining others, and often take on the role of comic.

Lunar Leos often feel a need to organize, and even control, their families and friends. They have an inner mission to set things right, and generally like to oversee the goings-on in their little circle.

This is a rather creative position of the Moon. At the very least, Moon in Leo people want to create and entertain. They can be rather lazy at times, and a little bossy too. Generally, though, they have a deep need to treat others fairly and justly.

Lunar Leos require lots and lots of love and care in order to function well in the world. When they feel slighted, these people can be dramatic in their emotional displays. When their pride has been hurt, they are given to big scenes and sulking. This rarely happens in public, however. Lunar Leos are far too concerned about their image to make splashy scenes outside the comfort of their own homes. In public, they prefer to take things in dignified ways. At home, however, they’re given to big displays of emotional drama. These scenes generally don’t last too long, however. Lunar Leos are often personally popular folk who are valued for their integrity and strong sense of justice.

Generally, it is easy to reason with a Lunar Lion. Appealing to their well-developed sense of fairness usually works (very) well.

Leo Rising

Leo rising people cannot help but be noticed. They radiate a special energy and magnetism that gets others’ attention. Sometimes it’s because they are loud people who pay a lot of attention to their personal appearance (especially their hair!); other times it’s due to a regal manner that simply demands interest from others.

Leo Ascendant people are very self-aware and body-conscious. They are acutely aware of others, and how they come across. In fact, these people are especially aware of their personal “backdrop”—they consider what the people they’re with, and the environments they are in, do to their own image. Often, Leo rising natives feel as if they are on stage, even in the privacy of their own homes!

They are given to rash decisions, temper tantrums, and excesses. However, they have plenty of staying power, drive, and their idealism keeps them from getting into too much trouble. The desire to oversee the goings-on in their circle can sometimes amount to bossiness. If this desire doesn’t go too far, however, it can just mean a person who wants to make sure the people they love are all right. Many Leo rising people are managers, either by profession or character.

The tendency to overestimate things, and themselves, is generally present. This is due to a natural enthusiasm and optimism about any new undertaking. Sometimes, they are walking commercials. In fact, Leo rising people make excellent promoters.

Leo rising people are generally demonstrative, and given to grand gestures. Drama comes naturally to these natives. In fact, some are so caught up in fiction, they’re a little blind to fact (yep!). They have an unusual need to be admired.

Leo Ascendants often have a strong physical constitution. They pay special attention to their personal appearance and mannerisms. Usually, they choose clothing and hairstyles that are youthful. Their manner is authoritarian and strong.

No matter their age in real-world terms, Leo rising people are kids at heart. They are fun-loving and warm; generous and spirited.

Just how magnanimous and outgoing a Leo rising individual is will be modified by the placement of the Sun by sign and house. This is because the ruling planet of a Leo Ascendant is the Sun. For example, a Leo rising person with Sun in Virgo may not come across as strongly as a Leo rising person with Sun in Aries. No matter the placement of the Sun, however, Leo rising natives are quite self-aware and optimistic. They have a natural flair for presentation, an eye for quality, and a hard-to-resist warmth of style. They want to make things happen, and create a stir. More on Leo Rising.

random lyrics

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

popped in to my head… “Did you think it’s cool to walk right up To take my life and fuck it up Well did you, well did you?”

who’s that by? . .. hrm.. google.. Korn.. oh ya.. Queen of the Damned.

I think I’m yelling at this laptop.. or myself.. maybe boredom.. not you… whoever you are.

I’ll post the whole song here.. it’s all vampire undertones of course being a soundtrack sound that Lestat was supposed to be signing about his life as a vampire badass… so ya know… little weird.. I can only take so much “I’m totally a supernatural d00d” …

AC/HP indeed.

Slept So Long
– Korn

Walking, waiting
Alone without a care
Hoping and hating
The things I can’t bare
Did you think it’s cool
to walk right up
To take my life and fuck it up
Well did you, well did you

I see hell in your eyes
Taken in by surprise
Touching you makes me feel alive
Touching you makes me die inside

Walking, waiting
Alone without a care
Hoping and hating
The things I can’t bare
Did ya think it’s cool
to walk right up
And take my life and fuck it

Well did you

I’ve slept so long without you
It’s tearing me apart too
How did you get this far
Playing games with this old heart
I’ve killed a million petty souls
But I couldn’t kill you
I’ve slept so long with out you

channeling Gordon

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

So since nothing else was happening last night (well beside Heroes of course) I dug deeper in to half life 2 yesterday… I played for like.. uh.. 7 hours.. merely.  I got to the “slow teleport” where you disappear for like a week and the traitorous bitch and the black dude who disappeared to… somewhere… I guess that’s next.. tonight I’m off to help Barney kick some more Combine ass at the Citadel. Anticitizen One the level is called.. I think that’s basically the end… then on to Ep1 and Ep2.

more dreams

Monday, October 15th, 2007

L came over last night and we ate and watched movies… hadn’t seen her in like 3 weeks.. so that was good.. I hope she likes her present today… ordered up on Thursday after she called me.  dunno where we are or what we are doing but it felt good to pretend like nothing happened and everything was how it was… laughing.. smiling.. talking about stuff.. having a good time.. all that.

but more dreams this morning.. mostly about Dexter.. since that’s what I watched after she left and before I slept.. and something is obviously nagging at me… before that I watched Human Traffic, Invincible, and Hard Candy with her .. another weird line up… but all good.. I think she liked them too.

anyway.. the dreams.. I can’t remember much of it but I’m having one of those dreams bleeding over in to reality things.. something about juggling lives around… I’m sure this all plays together.. having a complicated arrangement.. nothing really being like it was “last season”..   best part in Dexter was when he killed the dude .. of course.. “don’t talk about my g/f like that”.

doing work is going to be hard today.
